Professional

Commissioned 2LT USAF 1956

Entered active duty 1957 …did not pass the eye test for flying duty…went to Chanute AFB for Maintenance Officers School then on to Mt.Home AFB Idaho as a Field Maintenance Officer for B-47/KC-97 aircraft…

passed eye test ..went to Mission Texas for pilot training….

after 15 hours my instructor and I decided I didn’t do a good job on landings ..,

so off to navigator training at Harlingen AFB for navigator school then on to Keesler AFB for Electronic Warfare school. In 1960 to 1964 I was an Electronic Warfare Officer on B-52”s at Roswell AFB NM .

I think some of my neighbors were passengers on the Roswell UFO…

having an engineering degree I was selected to go to Wright-Patterson AFB and worked in the System Engineering Group doing electronic warfare testing and simulation for ECM systems that were in development with emphasis on ECM pods for tactical aircraft.

In 1968 I was sent to 7th AF Vietnam.

to assist in the introduction of new ECM pods into the theater.

History has shown that these systems caused a marked decrease in the number of aircraft shot down by Surface to Air Missiles. .

Upon my return I was assigned to Air Force Systems Command at Andrews AFB.

continuing with the development of new EW systems to include the command advocate for the EF-111 jamming aircraft…

In 1973 after having spent too much time in staff positions I was assigned to the 55th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing and deployed around the world in RC-135 aircraft…

it was a choice duty flying operational missions in the Cold War collecting SIGINT to assist in bomber strike planning. From there I moved up to the SAC RECON CENTER developing the mission requirements for the RC-135, U2 and SR –71….

Then on to HQ.Strategic Air Command for duty in Future Plans..where I was part of a cadre that developed the requirements for sustems that would enhance SAC’s reconnaissance and war fighting capabilities.

In 1979 I was transferred to the Pentagon to work on the JOINT STAFF to develop DOD Electronic Warfare and C3CM policy…as such much of my time was spent advocating the OJCS position on funding within the Defense Resource Board process.

Adjunct to that I was the US representative to the NATO Electronic Warfare Committee.

I retired from the Air Force In 1983 having been awarded the Legion of Merit…,Bronze Star…Meritorious Service ..

and the Air Medal among others over my 26 year career

I then was offered a position with E-SYSTEMS first in their Center for Advanced Planning and analysis where the focus was on IRAD as related to low observable applications to manned and unmanned reconnaissance platforms.

This effort received the highest score within the company during the annual TRI -SERVICE REVIEW.

I then was assigned to the E-Systems Washington Office as the Director Air Force Programs working in Legislative Affairs, International Business Development and providing the compelling rational for budgeting major E-Systems programs within the procurement cycle.

In 1996 Raytheon acquired E-Systems and I was offered a generous package …
so I took the package…
my stock options and said goodbye ,farewell, and so long…
hopped on my Tartan 37 and sailed down the Intercoastal and have been retired ever since…

If anything I can say due to the fundamentals learned at Parks I had a good start in what I have done over the years…..
