Cleburne Huston is a descendant of John Huston, a Scotch.Irish pioneer who grew to young manhood near Belfast, Ireland, and emigrated to America before the Revolutionary War. This ancestor settled in the colony of South Carolina but his children migrated westward, most of them going to Kentucky. One son went to Alabama where his offspring lived for several generations. It was in that state that the author was born, but his restless father took his young family westward to Texas.

Cleburne Huston graduated from the University of Texas and entered the field of journalism. He served as reporter or news editor on newspapers in San Antonio, Marshall and Den.ison, Texas, and Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Then for 20 years, he successfully published his own paper, The American, in Stam.ford, Texas.

He and his wife, the former Bess Greenwood, daughter of a pioneer Texas ranchman, live in the pleasant little city of Stamford.
